United Way's Community Fund
United Way’s Community Fund is what differentiates a United Way gift from a gift to a single health and human service agency.
Donors don’t need to decide between helping kids, seniors, or individuals needing a warm meal and a place to stay. Every gift can help all these needs. United Way’s Community Fund wraps around families by funding programs addressing multiple issues.
The process used within the Community Fund involves knowledgeable volunteers taking the lead in evaluating local programs to determine how funds can best be invested in our community. Programs are evaluated within two funding areas to provide volunteers a better opportunity to understand community needs and service delivery issues in each particular field.
Essential Service programs include those services providing food, shelter, healthcare and victim services. Essential Service programs receive 57% of total allocations to help those who need help the most.
The remaining 43% of allocations support program aligned with Sangamon County’s Continuum of Learning. These program align with one or more of the initiatives five stages while providing measurable results to help achieve community identified goals.
Agency Exception
While United Way believes giving to the Community Fund is the best way to support the entire community, it is understandable when a donor wants to exclude one or more particular agencies from receiving their support. The Agency Exception option of giving allows donors to give to all United Way's Member Agencies, through the Community Fund, with the exception of one or more. |
